The Burlington at The Devonshire Arms Hotel, Bolton Abbey was my third Michelin Star restaurant experience. My visits here have been for lunch and dinner.
I never took any photos at the lunch visit (as that was well before the time I had started my blog) and regrettably, to my dismay and frustration, I have been unable to find my photographs from the dinner that I wanted to show you. Fortunately, I do have the menu and there’s a copy below.
The dinner was part of The Devonshire Arms’ annual food festival.
The Devonshire Arms invites a series of guest chefs to cook a tasting menu either for lunch or dinner. We had booked for dinner and our guest chef was Kenny Atkinson from Rockliffe Hall; a name I wasn’t familiar with I have to admit.
Guests are seated in the lounge for pre-dinner drinks before being invited through to your table. The atmosphere in the dining room at the Burlington is quite formal with diners tending to keep their voices down! The décor is elegant and the tables are well positioned providing an element of privacy and spaciousness around your table.
The evening was extremely pleasant with the level of service one comes to expect of such a restaurant. All the dishes were beautifully presented with interesting textures and flavours. My least favourite on the menu was probably the lamb while the most enjoyed was the mackerel.
Kenny came out to speak to each individual table (which I was hoping would happen!). He very kindly signed my copy of the menu and was happy to spend some time chatting with us about the dishes and how he had found the experience as a guest chef. It was a nice personal touch to end a great experience.Bolton Abbey
