The theme for May’s Saltaire Clandestine Cake Club gathering called for a scout through the wine rack, a dig in the drinks cabinet or a trip to the local off licence. The Booze Cruise was all about any cakes containing your favourite tipple. Depending on how heavy handed we were, I hoped we weren’t in danger of ‘drinking’ (or should that be eating?) and driving!
Our venue for the evening was 211 The Deli in Saltaire who couldn’t have done enough for us. We were looked after extremely well by our welcoming hosts. The Deli offers fantastic food and drink throughout the week and hope they get some new and repeat business from our visit.
There were 18 of us in all with 10 cakes to choose from. We were cosily accommodated around a number of small round tables in the deli on what was a very cold spring evening. If the decibel level was anything to go by, everyone was enjoying each others’ company and of course the cake.
The cakes were arranged against the shop front’s window which was a good idea and worked very well as it caught the attention of several inquisitive passers-by.
Here are some photos of the cakes to feast your eyes upon!
And so yet another enjoyable evening drew to a close with a hint of disappointment it’s all over so quickly. It’s good to know there’s always next month’s event to look forward to and, given come of the conversations this evening, conjuring up recipe plans have already started. Bring it on!http://www.211thedeli.co.uk/
