Our gem of a cake club is actually two years old (plus one month!) and we couldn’t let this toddler of a milestone pass without having our own little celebration. The challenge was simply to bake a birthday cake fit for any discerning two year old.
Our venue was a return visit to the delightful 211 The Deli in Saltaire. We couldn’t have been looked after any better and a very big thank you goes to them for making our event such a success.
The Deli serves a variety of homemade food and is well worth a visit should you be down Saltaire way. Their homemade focaccia is a speciality and you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to their homemade cakes too.
We had eight cakes in all. They need no introduction so without further ado, here they are in all their splendour …
The inspiration for my chocolate and orange gateau above came from BBC Good Food. I made a few adaptions: I used an orange flavoured creme patisserie to go between the sponge layers instead of the orange buttercream specified and made the chocolate frill decoration for the top!
A final thank you again to our hosts at 211 The Deli.
