If you enter ‘rock and roll cake’ as a search on ‘tinternet, it’s fascinating what’s out there in the interpretation of this theme. There is plenty on the music aspect either in the shape of instruments or music groups and lots of bright, bold colours. I wondered what creations we would come up with?
As I considered what I might do, I went for an interpretation of the words ‘rock’ and/or ‘roll’. I was quite keen to do something with bananas if I could as I had a banana mousse recipe I was itching to try (and before anyone asks for the recipe, unfortunately I’m sworn to secrecy by the source!).
A quick search on ‘banana’ and ‘rock’ reminded me of the Wombles ‘Banana Rock’ song which lead me to my ‘Banana Rock’ & Roll cake. Seeing as the theme was rock and roll, I couldn’t leave it at that and decided to also do a Coffee & Walnut Swiss (Rock &) Roll.
The other cakes that had been brought along had picked up on Elvis Presley’s love of peanut butter and bananas and were a combination of peanut butter, bananas and/or chocolate.
Our hosts for the event were Fox & The Magpie, a creative space and shop in Shipley owned and run by one of our members. They were wonderful hosts and couldn’t have done more to make us feel welcome and to make our afternoon so enjoyable. So a very big thank you goes to them!
We had a fine afternoon …
